The Hospital

A big sight at first
The building makes you quite nervous
Hard to believe it is all dedicated to service
Even though volunteering seems very small
Their help is valuable after all
Passing out newspapers and magazines may not seem that crucial
But for some patients, reading proves to them beneficial
Doing Brew Crew is my favorite part
Working the cart, I keep close in my heart
Tea, coffee, hot cider, and hot cocoa
Are drinks popular on each floor, who would know?
Patients, nurses, visitors, and doctors come to appreciate
The little beverage cart operated by volunteers that comes almost every day
Delivering mail does not seem like a chore
Since it gives me a chance to explore the hospital even more
Small acts of kindness do make a difference
Seen in the response of the recipient who thanks me due to its' significance
By walking through all these halls
I start to notice everyone who works behind these walls
All these many, different UCSF employees working together as agents
To provide the best care possible to all patients
Making the world a better place
Is the impact ofUCSF personnel demonstrating its' values in the workplace
Caring, Healing, Teaching, & Discovery
All these principles I have practiced through volunteering
Most of all, I have learned empathy
Because I have learned firsthand how having a small conversation with some.one can improve their day greatly
