Program Overview

Volunteers are a special part of the UCSF Health team. Each individual contributes to the success of our Mission Statement, which is “Caring, Healing, Teaching, Discovering.”  Volunteers have many opportunities to serve under the supervision of professional staff and enhance the quality of patient care, learn new skills, and explore a career in the health field.

The types of volunteer assignments we have involve socializing and interacting with adult and pediatric patients, families, and staff in our hospitals and outpatient clinic settings.

Internships, Community Services & Employment

UCSF Campus Opportunities

Campus volunteers are an integral part of UCSF. Individuals volunteer as a public service, for civic and humanitarian as well as personal development reasons. Volunteers freely donate their services without promise or expectation of pay or future employment. UCSF provides these opportunities as a public service.

Please visit the UCSF HR Service Center for more information(i.e. labs/research)

Internships & Shadowing Opportunities

If you are looking to observe or  shadow an employee at UCSF Health, unfortunately,  we do not have a formal Internship Program or have the ability to connect individuals from the community with UCSF staff for on-site observation or shadow experiences.

UCSF employees or physicians with questions about student observations may contact Kelly Anglim for more information.

Coorporate Volunteers

Employees of coorporations are welcome to serve at UCSF Health, in our Children's hospital and Ronald McDonald House. Please reach out to Volunteer Services for more information.

Community Service

The department of UCSF Volunteer Services does not provide volunteer positions for people needing to fulfill court-ordered community service, to pay tickets/fines, or to serve probation.

UCSF Careers

Volunteering will provide you with relevant experiences and a stronger skill set, but does not guarantee that you will gain employment at UCSF. Volunteers must follow the same interview and selection process that is required for all UCSF Health applicants.

As all of our volunteer positions require specific training and consistent commitment, we are unable to offer periodic assignments.
